A case
example of Cooloo’s new way of furniture production, technology and circular
business models.
Currently we throw away 11 billion kg of furniture in Europe every year. Worldwide we generate 5 billion kg of leather waste. This is a waste and a problem. Cooloo has developed technologies and concepts as a solution for these problems.
Cooloo develops and produces interior products and materials based on sustainable coating technologies from recycled materials to circular business models. Within Cooloo's Endless Life® concept, new products are created with a low CO2 impact and high circularity. Existing products are refurbished with our bio-based coatings.
Because we spray the upholstery instead of upholstering, we generate less waste from offcuts (35 - 50%), and repair and refurbishment is ecologically and economically more feasible which makes it easier to keep products within the circular economy.
Additionally, this has made it possible to look at different business models for furniture, like lease for outdoor furniture. This is something Cooloo has launched for hospitality and consumers. The concept is to deliver the furniture in the spring, and have the customers pay per month of use. In the fall we collect the furniture, and during winter we clean and refurbish it. In the next season we deliver the furniture again. Everything looks and feels new, but is refurbished. This way Cooloo offers service, high-end quality and products with an Endless Life®.
